The Thames from Hampton Court to Sunbury Lock

garrick’s villa

David Garrick (1717-1779) was the most famous actor of his time.

He moved to Hampton in 1754 and bought Hampton House— renamed Garrick’s Villa in the 1820s or 1830s.

He had it rebuilt in 1758 and then again in 1773 by Robert Adam (1728-1792). Adam was the most important architect of the later 18th century and was responsible for  Kenwood House, Culzean Castle, Kedleston Hall, Luton Hoo, Osterley Park House and the interior of Syon House.

It is now flats.
